Complete package including washer, pin, and hitch. on June 7, 2010

This part is identical to the hitch couplings that come with the InStep trailers other than it is a gloss black instead of a more matte black finish. One thing not mentioned in the product description is that this incudes not only the coupler and pin (as pictured) but also the special “washer” that mounts behind the hitch to keep it horizontal.Often a concern or issue with the cheaper trailers is if they will properly mount to more “high end” bikes. The garden variety mass market retailer bikes (i.e. the cheaper ones) usually have a horizontal dropout for the rear axle where the more expensive bikes will have a vertical dropout for the axle. The hitches are designed with mass market retailer bikes (horizontal dropouts) in mind.
These hitches will work on either. With vertical dropouts rather than following the directions provided, you must instead position the tab that sticks off the back of the washer so that it will rest against the bottom of the frame instead of within the dropout as they are designed.
My wife an I each have one of these hitches on our Raleigh Route 4.0 hybrids (that have a vertical dropouts) and they work just fine. The hitches are also completely compatible with “quick release” style hubs.
No problems attaching to 2007 Specialized Rockhopper Disc on July 19, 2011

I picked up an In-Step Sierra Double bike trailer at a garage sale, but it didn’t include the coupler, so I bought it here. Absolutely no problems installing it on my 2007 Specialized Rockhopper Disc.

I recently purchased a used bike trailer off of craigslist and it came with everything but the bike attachment. the attachment was easy to install and only took about ten minutes before i was towing my girlfriend around in the kid trailer. =D
